Planning Your Plot

  1. Introduction of Scenery

  2. Discovery of crime or mystery

    1. Who discovers it?
    2. What is the crime or mystery?
    3. What is some evidence found at the scene?
  3. Introduction of sleuth

    1. Name, age, brief description
    2. How is he or she connected to crime scene?
  4. Development of suspects and suspicions

    1. Who are the suspects?
    2. Why is each one suspected?
    3. What are the methods, opportunities, and/or motivation for the suspects?
    4. What are the suspects alibis?
  5. Discovery of the clues

    1. What is the evidence?
    2. What are some other clues?
    3. How do the clues show method, opportunity and motivation?
  6. Elimination of other suspects

    1. Who is eliminated?
    2. Why is he or she eliminated?
    3. What steps does the detective take to eliminate him or her?
  7. Zeroing in on the main suspect

    1. Who is the main suspect?
    2. Why? What is his method, opportunity and motivation?
  8. Figuring out the answer and solving the crime or mystery

    1. What clues point to the solution?
    2. What is the solution?
    3. How is the solution confirmed?
